Richard Strauss once wrote "In comparison to music, all communication through words is shameless. The word diminishes and makes stupid; the word depersonalizes, the word makes what is uncommon common."
On a certain level, I agree with Strauss, but would qualify that music has that capacity to communicate what words can not and vs. versa. As a writer of numerous unproduced screenplays and as a former journalist I have no qualms about attempting to explain my music and myself with words.
As for what my music has to do with Real Estate, I must confess the only reason I do not have a dedicated music website is because I just can't bring myself to invest more money in something that has very little potential to provide a return. But since I do make a living in Real Estate, I have put my wordsmith skills to work to explain how the two relate here and in the liner notes for each of my compositions.
By most standards I am an expert at Residential Real Estate. For most clients that's all they need to know. But part of what makes a salesperson good at what they do is their ability to empathize with others. This ability is proportionate to the depth of their personal life experience. The deeper and more diverse this experience the greater the number of people they can relate to and the better a salesperson they will be.
Conversely, by most standards I would be considered an amateur musician, but if you want to know about the depth of my life experience beyond my Real Estate credentials, listen to my music.
Music was probably my first career choice out of school. But that was 40 years ago. Almost another lifetime. Though I never could make a living at it, while finding success in other fields I acquired the experiences I wrote about in these songs. They are in effect a journal of my life in California for the past 40 years.
Leonardo Da Vinci once said "A work of art is never finished, only abandoned." Some of these recordings are the first and only takes recorded on a hand recorder but even the more recent studio recordings were made on a near zero budget and are still being tinkered with. For now this is all I've got. I hope you will forgive the inadequacies of my musicianship to hear the messages and emotions within them.
